Start with the Colfax County Sheriff’s Office when the question concerns a recent arrest, current housing, or the proper custodian for a county booking record. Colfax does not maintain a public local roster. Its corrections page says the on-site six-person holding cell is not used for outside-business-hours housing and identifies contract detention centers, so current location must be confirmed before a facility-specific inquiry.

A practical request chain

A narrow request gives the custodian a clearer record to locate and review. Nebraska’s public-record framework is in Neb. Rev. Stat. §84-712; it does not promise that every booking image or investigative record can be released.

1. Ask Sheriff/Corrections which agency made the arrest and which contract facility, if any, currently houses the person.
2. Once the facility is known, direct current-custody, visitation, funds, and facility-specific questions to that detention center. Colfax names Butler, Platte, and Antelope county detention centers as possible destinations.
3. Send the holding department a written request identifying the person or incident, date range, known facility, and the specific booking record or photograph requested. Ask for electronic copies if available and for releasable portions if material is withheld.

5. For the later case outcome, use the appropriate Colfax court contact and the official court record. A booking allegation is not a conviction or a court disposition.

Colfax publishes no dedicated booking-photo request form or guaranteed booking-photo fee. The county describes actual copy costs and estimates, while its $0.25-per-page example applies to certain police report or evidence copies and is not a quoted price for a booking photograph. Ask the custodian for the actual estimate and any legal basis for a denial or redaction. Law-enforcement material may be withheld under §84-712.05, and later restrictions or sealing can affect public access under §29-3523.
